Gordon
commenced work as an Apprentice Boilermaker in 1974 with Evans Deakin Pty Ltd
before transferring to George Courtier Pty Ltd in 1977 to complete his trade. Over
the next 10 years, Gordon worked in the Trade across all sectors while studying
Drafting and Management Certificate before then completing several Welding
Certificates, Welding Supervisor and Welding Inspector Qualification.
In
January 1988, Gordon commenced work with the Department of Education as a Trade
Teacher in TAFE Queensland at Eagle Farm Collage of Technical and Further
Education (TAFE) in Brisbane. On completion of the Diploma Teaching TAFE,
Gordon was transferred to Townsville TAFE for 3 years to complete his country
service.
Gordon
returned to Brisbane where he was transferred to Logan TAFE in 1993 and back to
Gateway TAFE in 1994 where he taught both trade and post trade training. Gordon
completed his Bachelor of Education in 1995 at Queensland University of
Technology. In 1996, Gordon was approached by MERS ITAB to manage the pilot
project for the introduction of the National Training Package for 50
apprentices across Queensland. During this time, Gordon also chaired the Metal
Fabrication Teacher Network Committee for TAFE QLD
Over
the next 2 years, Gordon relieved in management positions before commencing as
an Associate Director at Yeronga Institute of TAFE in 2000 managing
Construction Training before moving to the Faculty Director for all Trade and
Advanced Trade Training.
Gordon
accepted the position of Faculty Director at Brisbane Institute of TAFE in 2004
before transferring to SkillsTech Australia in June 2006 as a Portfolio
Director for Manufacturing Engineering and Automotive and in October 2007,
Gordon moved to his current position as Assistant Director Educational Delivery
with the responsibility for developing Advanced Manufacturing programs.
Gordon
is married to Judy; they have 2 children in their late teens living on the
northside of Brisbane. Gordon is currently the Chair of the Pine Rivers Crime Stoppers
Area Committee and President of the Kallangur Lions Club.
Gordon’s
interests include cars, most sports - in particular motor racing. Gordon relaxes
by playing golf, tennis and push bike riding. |
